Founded in 1912, the German Hygiene Museum is home to the famous Transparent Man and Transparent Woman.
Over the course of the 20th century, it became a hub for global health expertise. During the Cold War, the museum actively sought to expand its networks in the Global South. In addition to exploring the general exhibition, our group was excited to discover the archival holdings in the museum’s cellar.
Examining the visual, material and textual traces of the museum’s international networks, particularly those between Eastern Europe and the Global South, provided a valuable opportunity to consider new avenues for research within the context of the seminar, „Global East – Global South: Trajectories and Memories of Global Socialism Before and After 1989”, offered this term.
